MEETINGS
Our regular meetings are held at the West York V.F.W. 1800 Andrews St. on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:30 P.M. except July and Sept. (no meetings). Directions: West Market St. to Clinton St., south to V.F.W. on right, enter at basement door at southeast corner of the building (down steps).

FROM THE PRESIDENT: Just a reminder that our Maitanz is being held on May 17, 2008. Music by the Continentals at the Alert Fire Hall,Emigsville. This is a dinner dance. Dinner will include, Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Stuffing, and Mixed Vegetables etc. Of course there will be beer, sodas and snacks for the evening. Tickets are $17.50 per person and are still available, but must be paid by May 10
th. Call either Edie Heindel (717-764-1725) or Gertie Spangler (717-292-3869). We hope you will come and join us for evening of entertainment, friendship and good music. (Flyer enclosed) Also anyone wishing to donate door prizes may do so and is greatly appreciated. Hope to see you all there! Our next big event, the 35th Anniversary Stiftungsfest in 2009 is in the early planning stages. We are asking the membership for suggestions regarding band, location (person to contact for details) and date. We are enclosing a survey (Survey not included, please respond via e-mail) for you to fill out and return to us or e-mail us your suggestions (tommarie1937@aol.com). We will need people to assist in helping with PR, decorating, selling ads and setting up the program booklet and having it printed. Al Langis reports current membership is 144. Our sincere thanks to those members for their continuing support.
PERSONALS:
Edie Heindel reports a Get Well Card was sent Al Lewis who received a pacemaker, Sympathy Cards to Grace Young on the death of her sister and to Jim Hackett on the death of his father. A plant was sent to Tine Heinrich who had By-Pass Surgery. A donation to the Susan Byrnes Health Education Center in memory of member Augusta Petron. It is the custom of the club, when a member passes away to make a contribution in their memory to a charitable organization of the family’s choosing.
If you know of anyone sick at home, in the hospital or going through a rough time contact Ann Lewis (717-252-1295) or any Board Member.
NEWS ITEMS:
Al and Edie Heindel and Tom and Marie Fink attended the twelfth annual York College Scholarship Recognition Dinner held on April 9, 2008. Several years ago the German-American Society established a Scholarship fund at York College for a student studying German at York College. Alpenrose contributes to this fund annually. We are including a thank you letter from a Matt Zaleski, the student who received funds from the scholarship fund for the 2007-2008 school year (letter not included).
Congratulations to Central Family Restaurant (Al and Gertie Spangler) for their successful 15th annual Spaghetti dinner held on April 8, 2008. The York City Restaurant donates all the proceeds to the United Way.
Gertie Spangler announced that Central Family Restaurant will have German Day (German Food) on May 6, 2008. Dinner starts at 4 p.m. MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
Ron Herman thanked everyone who attended the German Buffet held by the West York VFW on April 10.
A SALUTE to member, Ron Herman, for his involvement in community affairs, which includes many Veterans programs.
