Don’t forget Polka Fun Time Show with Joanne Deardorff & Deb Foulkrod Sunday mornings 9:30 a.m. until noon on Radio Station WWII 720 AM.
Can you believe it! We are halfway through 2010. Where does the time go? That means it is Alpenrose Picnic time! Mark your calendars for the Picnic date of Sept. 11, 2010. It will be held at Das Siebenthal Resort, There will be food, games and musical entertainment. Details on Flyer at bottom of newsletter. Don’t forget white elephants for the sale. They should be wrapped and marked for man, woman or child. Age of child should be noted. Opening bid for adult items will be $2.00 and for children $.50. White Elephant sale is planned to start at 1:15 with music beginning at 2:30. ALSO DESSERTS WILL BE WELCOME. Anyone wanting to bring a dessert please do so.
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2010 -The Alpenrose Club is offering a tour of our Lancaster County neighbors. We will need 30 people to secure this date. The cost is $58.00 per person plus tips for the bus driver and tour guide. This is a very informative and fun filled trip and the family style lunch at Katie’s home is wunderbar. MEMBERSHIP - Al Langis reports current membership is 148. Thanks to renewing members for their support and to all our new members. Since last Newsletter we would like to welcome the following new members: Karl Boldt, husband of Mary Boldt (Renewed member) and their children Twins Ellen and Collin; Welcome also to George Hasselbarth.
PERSONALS – Thinking of You cards were sent to Hannelore Emig for knee surgery and to President Drueckhammer. Peter had the misfortune to fall down some steps at Das Siebenthal. Fortunately no bones were broken, but he was badly shaken. He is still sore and in discomfort. Told him the next time he should take the elevator. Ha! Ha!
Our usual reminder to contact Marie Fink at 755-2044 or any Board Member if you know of anyone sick at home, in the hospital or going through a rough time.
MEMBERS IN THE NEWS
– Congratulations to Grace Young, who was among several volunteers, honored for their years of volunteering at the Lutheran Home at Kelly Drive and Sprenkle Drive.Congratulations to Student Member Susanne Deisenroth. Susanne participated in the York County 4-H Horse Clubs open benefit show on May 1 to raise money for the County’s 4-H Horse Program. Susanne was a winner in the Open English Division on her horse Skips Rugged Legacy. This was one of seven divisions in the event.
Reminder from Edie Heindel regarding German Life Magazine. For new members German Life is a unique bi-monthly magazine dedicated to travel, history, culture, genealogical topics. It provides readers with modern and historical perspectives on German-speaking Europe, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as German-America. Each issue of German Life is comprised of full-color features that you can’t find elsewhere.
Single copy sells for $4.98. Regular subscription for 6 issues is $24.95. As a member of a German-American organization, you will only pay $15.95 for 6 issues.
